American Water donates $500,000 to American Water Charitable Foundation to support COVID-19 relief efforts

CAMDEN, N.J., Apr. 6, 2020American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest publicly-traded U.S. water and wastewater utility company, announced today that it made a contribution of $500,000 to the American Water Charitable Foundation (AWCF), to support coronavirus relief efforts.

AWCF, the charitable arm of American Water, will disburse the funds directly to several critical COVID-19 specific initiatives, including the American Water Employee Crisis Fund and a new community-focused COVID-19 Response Fund. The AWCF Board of Trustees will oversee grant selection and allocation of funds.

“Providing this donation to our charitable foundation ensures that every grant dollar will be awarded directly to an organization making a valuable impact in a community served by American Water and managing through the COVID-19 crisis” said Walter Lynch, chief executive officer, American Water. “We know our customers, our communities and our employees have all been personally impacted. By also contributing to our Employee Crisis Fund, we help the very people who are so critical in providing an essential service to our customers. We also are able to help our customers through the COVID-19 Response Fund by supporting programs that will make the communities where they live stronger.”

Since 2012, the American Water Charitable Foundation has invested more than $5.5 million in programs and organizations that are important to American Water employees and the communities it serves. The American Water Employee Crisis Fund was established in 2018 to provide emergency financial assistance to employees experiencing financial hardship.

American Water and the American Water Charitable Foundation also recently announced a $100,000 donation to Feeding America to help food banks across the country support individuals and families impacted by the coronavirus (COVID-19).
