Illinois American Water Completes Repairs at Water Treatment Plant; Conservation Measures Continue

Lincoln, Ill. – Dec. 29, 2020 –Illinois American Water has completed critical repairs at the Lincoln District’s South Water Treatment Plant. An electrical issue which needed to be addressed immediately has been resolved. To ensure continued reliability to the Lincoln service area, the local water service team will continue to analyze data overnight. During this time, the mandatory conservation notice will remain in effect.

Customers must limit all non-essential water use until further notice, including running dishwashers and washing machines at this time. Customers are also asked to avoid filling bathtubs, and to use showers instead. Illinois American Water anticipates lifting the conservation measures tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020, barring unforeseen circumstances.

Eric Larson, senior operations manager for the Western Division, credited quick work by Illinois American Water and cooperation by customers for keeping water flowing and avoiding additional impact to water service. He said “Because Illinois American Water has a large footprint across the state, we were able to quickly mobilize resources, parts and equipment from our neighboring operations in Peoria. This helped to expedite repairs. I am proud of how quickly our team of experts came together.”

Larson also commended residents and asked them “to continue supporting the local water service team by conserving water.” He said, “We are thankful to our customers who adhered to the conservation measures and assisted our team by curbing water usage. It is important they continue these efforts for a bit longer so we can analyze data and keep water service flowing to homes, businesses, and fire hydrants. We hope to return to normal water usage soon.”

Customers were notified of the conservation measures via the company’s customer notification system which calls, texts and/or emails customers based on account preferences. Information is also available via Illinois American Waters online alerts at illinoisamwater.com. Customers will be notified in the same manner when conservation measures are lifted.

Landlords with water service in their name should inform tenants so they are aware of this impact to their water service.
