Watersheds Art Contest. Two fourth-graders within the company’s service territory were selected as winners for conveying the importance of protecting our natural resources through exceptional artwork.

“We are truly inspired by all of the submissions we received and commend every student who participated,” said Denise Venuti Free, Sr. Director of Communications and External Affairs, New Jersey American Water. “Activities like our art contest help to remind us that we all play a part in protecting our water sources, and the future of our watersheds looks very bright in the hands of these young stewards.”

The grand prize was awarded to Roman from Union County, NJ for his drawing of a serene watershed landscape. Roman’s artwork shows the importance of watersheds for sustaining all life as well as enjoyment of their natural beauty. “Watersheds are important to me because they generate life,” said Roman. “I don’t want these scenes to be destroyed. I think everyone should have a chance to see one, and I wanted to show that in my drawing.”

Victoria’s artwork exemplifies wise water use outdoors to mitigate runoff and maximize rainwater usage. “We use huge buckets to catch rainwater so it doesn’t flood the streets,” said Victoria. “That water helps feed our grass.”

The winners each received an American Express gift card and all contest participants received a certificate of participation and a rubber duck. For more information about the Protect Our Watersheds Art Contest and to learn more about watershed protection, visit www.newjerseyamwater.com.
