Pennsylvania American Water Announces $735,000 Mon Valley System Upgrade
Clairton, Pa. (Oct. 13, 2020) – Pennsylvania American Water announced today the start of construction to replace 2,100 feet of aging water main in its Mon Valley system. The $735,000 upgrade will improve service reliability and fire protection for residents.
Contractors with Hufnagel Excavating will begin this week to upgrade water main along Large Avenue in the city of Clairton. The pipe dates to the 1950s and has reached the end of its useful lifespan. The project, which is expected to be complete by mid-November, also includes the replacement of two fire hydrants.
Weather permitting, crews will begin replacing pipe on Tuesday, October 13, 2020. As a result, a portion of Large Avenue will be closed; flaggers will direct traffic to the detoured route. We ask drivers to use caution while traveling in the work zone and thank them for their patience while we make this necessary improvement.
This upgrade is in addition to $6.4 million that Pennsylvania American Water is currently investing in 2020 to improve service reliability and fire protection for approximately 21,0000 customers in our Mon Valley service area.
