West Virginia American Water Invests $430,000 on Infrastructure Improvements in Weston

Weston, W.Va., (Sept. 24, 2024) – West Virginia American Water is pleased to announce an infrastructure upgrade project in Weston. As part of our ongoing commitment to providing safe, reliable water service, the company will be investing approximately $430,000 in infrastructure improvements within the community.

This project, which recently began, includes replacing 1,298 feet of aging water main with 2- and 6-inch PVC main. Construction will take place along School Street and Brooklyn Avenue. These upgrades will improve service reliability for customers, which will help reduce service disruptions and improve fire flows.

"I am extremely happy to see these water infrastructure upgrades. Each upgrade and investment in our community will directly help our residents,” said Lewis County Commissioner, Agnes Queen. “We look forward to these and future projects, not only in Weston, but throughout Lewis County."

Crews will work Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Traffic restrictions will be in place during construction. Final street restoration will take place after the main replacement work is completed.

This infrastructure upgrade project is part of West Virginia American Water’s plan to invest more than $97 million in infrastructure upgrades across the state in 2024. In addition, these projects help support the economic health of the communities served by West Virginia American Water. Economic impact studies show that for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure, upwards of 15 jobs are generated throughout local economies.

Over the past decade, West Virginia American Water has invested over $736 million, in infrastructure projects and capital upgrades to address aging infrastructure across the Mountain State, including more than 168 miles of new water main. During construction, customers may experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water, and/or lower than normal water pressure. Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these temporary inconveniences. To report water related emergencies such as leaks, main breaks or other service disruptions, customers can submit a service request on the company’s website.
