Missouri American Water to Begin Valve Work on Noyes Boulevard to Improve Reliability

Noyes Boulevard to close to all traffic at Frederick Avenue on Monday Nov. 13

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (November 12, 2023) – Missouri American Water will be working on Noyes Boulevard beginning Monday, November 13 replacing water main valves. A total of five valves will be replaced ranging in age from the early 1900s to the 1990s. This work will cause temporary lane and road closures.

Noyes Boulevard will close to all traffic on both sides of the intersection at Frederick Avenue beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, November 13. Frederick Avenue will remain open with one lane in each direction. Weather permitting, the roads will reopen on or before Wednesday, November 22.

Drivers should avoid the area if possible and plan alternate routes. If driving in and around the work zone, drivers should exercise caution by slowing down and paying attention to construction signs. Earlier this year the Missouri legislature passed a law prohibiting drivers from using cell phones and other handheld devices while driving.

“These valves are an important part of the water system and can be used to redirect water flow during a main break, ultimately minimizing the interruption of water service and impact to our customers,” said John Hontz, senior operations manager.

Missouri American Water is investing about $450 million statewide in 2023 to improve service and reliability. This includes replacing and often upsizing over six miles of water pipe in St. Joseph.

Missouri American Water, a subsidiary of American Water (NYSE: AWK), is the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, providing high-quality and reliable water and wastewater services to approximately 1.5 million people.
