California American Water Invites Customers to Public Hearings, Moving to Stage Two of Water Shortage Contingency Plans

SACRAMENTO (June 10, 2022) – Following Governor Gavin Newsom’s drought-related executive order in March and the State Water Board’s latest emergency regulations, water providers throughout California are mandated to move to stage two of each entity’s Water Shortage Contingency Plan. As such, California American Water has filed requests with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to adjust its conservation measures accordingly, moving all remaining systems to stage two.

State Law requires water utilities to develop Water Shortage Contingency Plans so that they can adjust services and customer expectations during times of drought. Plans consist of tiered guidelines dictating more extensive conservation measures as the threat of water scarcity increases. To learn more about California American Water’s stage two regulations, visit: www.amwater.com/caaw/Conservation/ and click on the applicable region.

To facilitate the necessary water savings required by stage two, California American Water will be continuing to encourage conservation among its customers including adjustments to mandatory outdoor watering schedules. Customers within California American Water’s Placer, Sacramento, Yolo, Madera and Merced Counties service areas are included, as well as those in the Monterey County areas of Ambler Park, Chualar, Garrapata, Ralph Lane, and Toro. Both areas are anticipated to move to stage two, pending CPUC approval, on June 30, 2022.
