American Water Charitable Foundation Awards $6,000 for Community Safety Initiatives

Receive Funds for Youth Violence Prevention and Home Safety Features
The American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit
organization created by American
Water, the largest publicly traded U.S. water and wastewater utility
company, is presenting two grants totaling $6,000 to the Urban League of
Lexington Fayette County and Lexington Habitat for Humanity to enhance
community safety.
Funding in the amount of $3,000 will support the Motivated All Day
Everyday (MADE) gang violence prevention program of the Urban League.
The program meets with targeted middle and high school students on a
weekly basis. The curriculum and small group therapy sessions focus on
gang prevention, violence prevention, community crisis response, and
positive behavior instruction. The program has been successful in
stabilizing school behaviors, violence prevention, improving grades of
participating students and providing youth with an alternative to gang
life. According to executive director P. G. Peeples, Jr., “The Urban
League is proud to partner with the American Water Charitable Foundation
in making our community safer. By reaching at-risk students and offering
alternatives to crime and gangs, we have the capacity to decrease
violence in and out of our schools, neighborhoods, and community. Thank
you for investing in our young people, empowering our community, and
changing lives.”
Lexington Habitat for Humanity is committed to building safe and decent
homes for low-income homeowners. Providing high quality home safety and
security features is vital in fulfilling this commitment. A grant in the
amount of $3,000 has been awarded for the purchase and professional
installation of smoke detectors, high quality motion sensors, and
exterior security lighting to increase the level of safety and security
for homeowners in up to 10 new homes.

build homes which are structurally sound, energy efficient, beautiful
and safe. Features such as exterior lighting, smoke and carbon monoxide
detectors, double-paned locking windows, deadbolts and peepholes are a
few of the things which make our families know they have a decent,

quality and safe homes possible, and we are grateful for their support."
