Water Main Relocation and Upgrade on Clays Mill Road Begins

LEXINGTON, Ky., (April 26, 2021) – Kentucky American Water is scheduled to begin work soon on a water main relocation and improvement project on Clays Mill Road in Lexington. The project involves upgrading approximately 7,000 feet of 6-inch-diameter water mains installed in the 1940s and 1950s with 8-inch-diameter mains along Clays Mill Road from Stratford Drive to Harrodsburg Road.

The company’s approximately $1.5 million investment in this water system infrastructure on Clays Mill Road is part of the next phase of the city’s Clays Mill Road widening project and will continue to advance water service reliability for customers. Kentucky American Water’s contractor, Dix & Associates, is scheduled to begin work in late April/early May and complete the project by the end of December 2021, depending on weather and other construction factors that could affect the schedule. Work will be conducted mostly in the right-of-way along the side of the road, but there may be periodic impact to traffic within the work area.

For the safety of work crews, motorists and pedestrians in the area, Kentucky American Water encourages drivers and pedestrians to be extra cautious when in the vicinity of work zones.

Kentucky American Water invests approximately $25 million annually in capital improvement projects to maintain quality, reliable water service for customers.

Kentucky American Water, a subsidiary of American Water (NYSE: AWK), is the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, providing high-quality and reliable water and/or wastewater services to approximately half a million people.
