Missouri American Water names Jody Carlson as Vice President of Engineering and Business Development

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (February 14, 2023) – Missouri American Water Jody Carlson has been named Vice President of Engineering and Business Development for Missouri American Water. In this expanded role, Carlson will oversee the performance of the Engineering Department and implementation of its capital budget. Additionally, he will leverage his expertise to expand new and existing growth opportunities.

“Jody’s nearly 30 years of leadership and background in engineering made him a natural fit for this position,” said Rich Svindland, President of Missouri American Water.  “Jody also brings extensive knowledge of water and wastewater system operations to help communities facing increasing state and federal regulations.”

Carlson joined Missouri American Water in 2015 as a Senior Operations Manager.  In 2022, he was promoted to Director of Operations. He was previously the Director of Public Works for the City of St. Joseph and an engineer for the Missouri Department of Transportation. 

In addition to his professional roles, Carlson currently is a member of the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and was recent Chairman of the Economic Development Committee.  He is also on the Board of Directors for the Mosaic Foundation and Pivotal Point.  Carlson is actively engaged with elected officials and is involved in multiple youth sporting activities.

Carlson holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri and is registered as a Professional Engineer in the state of Missouri. He will continue to operate from the local office.
