American Water Charitable Foundation Awards Nearly $15,000 to Boys and Girls Club of Union County
CAMDEN, N.J. – SEPT. 15, 2020 – New Jersey American Water announced today that The Boys and Girls Club of Union County has been selected as a 2020 American Water Charitable Foundation Keep Communities Flowing grant recipient. The Boys and Girls Club of Union County will receive $14,970 to provide students with hands-on learning experiences focused on the importance and impact of water on all aspects of life. Additionally, the funding will provide the Boys and Girls Club with new equipment – including 15 new computers, two printers, one television and headphones – for STEM programming.
“Organizations like the Boys and Girls Club of Union County are the core of our communities,” says Cheryl Norton, President of New Jersey American Water. “We are proud to support community groups committed to educating our youth about the importance of water conservation and environmental stewardship.”
In 2020, the Keep Communities Flowing grant program provided more than $150,000 to support programs and projects that connect with one or more of American Water’s core focus areas of Water and the Environment, Water and Healthy Living, Environmental Education and Community Sustainability. The Boys and Girls Club of Union County is one of twelve grant recipients from across the country and plays a vital role in the planning and execution of community-based projects, focused on water conservation and environmental education.
“We are delighted to partner with the American Water Charitable Foundation and New Jersey American Water to bring Water & The Environment programs to members of our Plainfield Club,” says Russell Triolo, Chief Executive Officer of the Boys and Girls Club of Union County. “This learning experience will greatly impact members and encourage them to be good stewards of water, as well as provide an understanding of how water effects our lives in so many ways.”
Grantees for this program required a local American Water sponsor – New Jersey American Water – and were selected based on criteria including clarity of project goals and projected impact, innovation and strength of project, and evidence of community and volunteer engagement.
