New Jersey American Water Employee Honored With YWCA Union County TWIN Award

CAMDEN, N.J. – MAY 27, 2021 – New Jersey American Water’s Deresha Ship, Operations Specialist, was awarded the YWCA Union County’s Tribute to Women & Industry (TWIN) Award during the organization’s virtual ceremony this month.

“We nominated Deresha for the TWIN Award in recognition of her hard work and dedication to finding a way to improve everything she touches,” said Mark McDonough, president, New Jersey American Water. “Her work within our company, as well as within her own community, is truly an inspiration to us all, and we are proud to see her receive this well-deserved award.”

After only four years with the company, Ship quickly proved herself to be a valuable member to her team. In addition to her main responsibilities of seamlessly coordinating logistics between several functions of New Jersey American Water’s Plainfield operating center, Deresha helps foster a sense of community between her peers by coordinating group activities and finding new ways to make sure employees feel heard.

Outside her career, Ship is an active member of several community-based organizations, including founder of her own non-profit organization, Helping House. Created in response to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, Helping House provides food and other essentials to the homeless, elderly, and income-restrained individuals in the Plainfield community.
