New Jersey American Water Names New Senior Directors for Central and Coastal Operating Regions

Carmen Tierno Named Senior Director of Central Operations and Lindsey Olson Named Senior Director of Coastal Operations

CAMDEN, N.J. – FEB. 9, 2023 – New Jersey American Water recently announced that Carmen Tierno has been promoted from senior director of operations for the company’s Coastal Operating Region to senior director of operations for its Central Operating Region. Additionally, Lindsey Olson has been promoted from senior manager of Production to succeed Tierno as senior director of operations for the Coastal Operating Region.

“Tierno and Olson have strong backgrounds with extensive experience in a variety of fields within the water utility industry,” said Thomas Shroba, vice president of Operations, New Jersey American Water. “I am confident they will each continue to be a valuable resource to our company as they lead our Central and Coastal Operations teams in their new roles.”

In these roles, Tierno and Olson will oversee the Operations, Water Quality, and Production teams in their respective regions while working closely with the statewide Engineering, Capital Planning and Asset Management teams. New Jersey American Water’s Central Operating Region consists of 44 municipalities in Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Somerset, and Union County, and its Coastal Operating Region consists of 40 municipalities in Monmouth and Ocean County.

Tierno has over 30 years of experience in the water utility industry, including past roles in engineering, business performance, and operations leadership across the American Water footprint. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Widener University and an MBA in finance from Rutgers University, and is a member of the American Water Works Association (AWWA), Water Environment Association, and American Society of Civil Engineers. He also serves on the board of directors for Jersey Shore Partnership. Tierno is a licensed professional engineer in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and holds a water distribution and treatment plant operator license in New Jersey.

Olson has over 20 years of experience in the water utility industry in the New Jersey American Water and American Water Engineering groups and the company’s Coastal Operating Region Production team. Olson holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in civil engineering from Rutgers University and holds a seat on their Industry Advisory Board since 2022. She is a member of AWWA, and has previously held several leadership roles including chair of the New Jersey Section, chair of the national Young Professionals Committee, and Director-at-Large of the national Board of Directors. Olson was recognized by Water & Wastes Digest Magazine as one of 16 “Top Young Professionals” and as one of NJBIZ’s 40 Under 40 in 2017. She is a licensed professional engineer in New Jersey and New York.
