New York American Water Replacing Aging Water Main in Woodmere

Woodmere, NY (July 15, 2020) – New York American Water is investing $530,000 to install new water main in Woodmere. The project, beginning today, July 15, will replace 1,100 feet of aging water main with new 8-inch ductile iron main. The project will also replace four fire hydrants and 10 utility-owned service lines.

“The replacement of aging water mains is a key focus of our infrastructure investment program for our customers in Service Area 1,” said New York American Water Director of Engineering John Kilpatrick. “Aging unlined cast iron water mains contribute to intermittent discolored water and poor water flow, and every water main replacement project helps combat these issues.”

This main replacement project will take place along Greenfield Road from Westwood Road east to Northfield Road. Work is expected to take approximately four weeks to complete. Final street restoration will be completed after service line transfers are complete.

Work will take place between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Residents should note that sections of the street where construction is taking place may be closed to traffic during these working hours.

The company asks customers to recognize the essential work being done by its employees and contractors and reminds them to adhere to social distancing rules for everyone’s safety. If a customer sees a crew performing work in their area, and wishes to ask a question about it, they are encouraged to visit the website or the company’s Facebook or Twitter pages or call Customer Service at (877) 426-6999.
