Pennsylvania American Water Announces $3.5 Million Water System Upgrade
Project to begin this week in Peters Township and South Fayette
Pittsburgh, Pa. (March 2, 2023) – Pennsylvania American Water announces the start of construction to install approximately two miles of new water main in Peters Township and South Fayette to improve service reliability and fire protection for residents.
The cost of these system improvements is approximately $3.5 million. Starting this week, the water mains will be replaced with new ductile iron mains in Peters Township along:
- Wilhaven Road between Longvue Drive and the dead end
- Jomat Drive between Longvue Drive and Center Church Road
- Thomas Road between Saratoga Drive and Lampliter Lane
- Edgewood Drive between Brookdale Road and the dead end
- Brookdale Circle between W. Edgewood Drive and E. Edgewood Drive
In South Fayette Township, water mains will be replaced along:
- Hays Road from Lindenwood Drive to 254 Hays Road
- Southpointe Drive between Hickory Grade Road and the dead end
- Boyce Road between Washington Pike and Lawnshadow Drive
Crews will work weekdays between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and traffic restrictions will be in place during construction. The company expects to complete the water main installation, including connecting all customer service lines to the new mains, this spring, with final restoration and paving scheduled for fall.
This infrastructure upgrade project is not only an important investment in public health and safety. It also helps support the economic health of the communities we serve. Economic impact studies show that for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure, upwards of 15 jobs are generated throughout the economy. Pennsylvania American Water invested approximately $490 million in 2022 alone to improve our water and wastewater treatment and pipeline systems, supporting more than 7,000 jobs.
During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water, and/or lower-than-normal water pressure. Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these temporary inconveniences. For more information, contact Pennsylvania American Water’s customer service center at 1-800-565-7292.
