Virginia American Water Announces 2023 Volunteer Firefighter Grant Recipients

Seven fire departments in company’s service areas receive funding

Alexandria, VA – October 19, 2023 – Virginia American Water is proud to announce the recipients of its 2023 Volunteer Fire Grant Program. This year, seven volunteer fire departments located within the company’s service areas in the Northern Neck and the Town of Waverly have been chosen to receive grants, totaling $7,000. This funding will be used to support initiatives, training and/or upgraded equipment to help the responders better protect themselves and the communities they serve. The grants are part of an annual company program to financially assist volunteer fire departments within Virginia American Water service areas.

Each department listed below has been granted $1,000 to advance fire protection and public safety.

This year’s grants will be used in various ways by each department including the purchase of safety gloves, radios and pagers, as well as new radio cases and straps, portable water storage tanks, fire hoses, thermal imaging cameras, and portable automated external defibrillators (AED).

The 2023 Volunteer Firefighter and EMS grant recipients include:

  • Town of Waverly Volunteer Fire Department
  • Tappahannock-Essex Volunteer Fire Department
  • Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department
  • Upper Lancaster Volunteer Fire Department
  • Callao Volunteer Fire Department, and
  • Colonial Beach Volunteer Fire Department
  • Fairfields Volunteer Fire Department
