Virginia American Water Invests $823,900 in Alexandria to Continue Reliable Water Service

ALEXANDRIA, V.A. – FEBRUARY 10, 2021 – Virginia American Water will replace approximately 2,120 feet of aging water main in Alexandria beginning the week of February 16, 2021 to continue to advance water service reliability and increase water flows for household consumption and fire protection in the Seminary Ridge community. This project is part of Virginia American Water’s multimillion-dollar initiative to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life to our communities throughout the state.

The company will invest $823,900 to upgrade aging 2-inch and 6-inch water lines with new, 8-inch ductile iron main along the following streets:

  • Fort Williams Parkway from Duke Street to Trinity Drive
  • Cockrell Street from Duke Street to the Cul-De-Sac
  • Tupelo Place from Fort Williams Parkway to 3611 Tupelo Place

Virginia American Water’s qualified , J. Fletcher Creamer, will begin work on Fort Williams Parkway on or about February 16 and expects to finish by the end of June 2021, weather permitting. Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work outside of these hours is not expected unless required to maintain the project schedule. Final street restorations will be completed in the Summer of 2021.

For the safety of workers and the public, traffic restrictions and/or alternating traffic patterns are likely to occur during work hours. All emergency vehicles and local traffic will be allowed access during construction.
