West Virginia American Water Awards Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Grants to 15 Organizations

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Dec. 18, 2023) – West Virginia American Water announced today 15 recipients of the company’s third annual Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Grant Program. The company will invest $20,000 in organizations seeking to develop and implement programs, training and community-related projects that promote and foster inclusion, diversity and equity in communities across West Virginia.

"At West Virginia American Water, we believe that fostering inclusion, diversity and equity is not just a responsibility but a core value," said Robert Burton, president of West Virginia American Water. “By partnering with community leaders and investing in local organizations, we are driving change and promoting ID&E in a meaningful and lasting way.”

West Virginia American Water’s community investment committee reviewed numerous grant applications for programs, events and initiatives across the state. Fifteen organizations were selected to receive $20,000 in funding for inclusion, diversity and equity efforts. Awardees include:

 

  • 10 in 10
    • $2,500 to support cultural community sustainability events   
  • Angels Inspired
    • $1,000 to support ‘The Wound Speaks’ trauma recovery program
  • Appalachian Center for Independent Living
    • $1,000 to support the ‘Garden of Giving’ program   
  • Bright Futures Now
    • $1,000 to support student and young literacy programming   
  • Children’s Therapy Clinic
    • $1,000 to support the ‘Social Skills Group’ program
  • Creating the Advantage
    • $1,000 to support community youth sports development   
  • Dunbar Community Partners
    • $1,000 to support the food pantry program   
  • Hamlin-Lincoln County Public Library
    • $500 to support the development of a youth art program   
  • Leadership West Virginia
    • $ 2,500 to support the ID&E scholarship program 
  • The Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine
    • $2,500 to support the ‘Health Care Pathway’ initiative   
  • Naval Academy Parents Club of West Virginia
    • $500 to support the ‘Dark Day Care Package’ program 
  • Ruthlawn Elementary School
    • $2,500 to support the development of an autism and sensory classroom    
  • Spotted Owl Healthcare Organization
    • $1,000 to support the development of wellness and nutrition programming
  • The Healing House
    • $1,000 to support the women’s recovery program  
  • Walking Miracles Family Foundation
    • $1,000 to support the ‘Care Assistance’ program
