West Virginia American Water Invests Additional $1.6 Million in Boone County Infrastructure Improvements
Racine, W.Va., (Sept. 19, 2024) – West Virginia American Water is pleased to announce a second infrastructure project in the Ashford and Nellis communities of Boone County. As part of our ongoing commitment to providing safe, reliable water service, the company will be investing more than $1.6 million in infrastructure improvements, following an additional $1.8 million infrastructure project that was announced earlier this year.
This project, which recently began, includes replacing 4,700 feet of aging water main with 8-inch PVC main. Construction will take place along Ashford-Nellis Road from Dog Hollow to Casey Fork. These upgrades will improve service reliability for customers, which will help reduce service disruptions and improve fire flows.
Crews will work Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Traffic restrictions will be in place during construction. The company expects to complete the water main replacement and connect all customer service lines to the new main by the end of December and final street restoration will take place after the main replacement work is completed.
This infrastructure upgrade project is part of West Virginia American Water’s plan to invest more than $97 million in infrastructure upgrades across the state in 2024. In addition, these projects help support the economic health of the communities served by West Virginia American Water. Economic impact studies show that for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure, upwards of 15 jobs are generated throughout local economies.
Over the past decade, West Virginia American Water has invested over $736 million, in infrastructure projects and capital upgrades to address aging infrastructure across the Mountain State, including more than 168 miles of new water main. During construction, customers may experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water, and/or lower than normal water pressure. Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these temporary inconveniences.
