West Virginia American Water Shares Simple Ways to Make Earth Day Every Day

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Apr. 22, 2024) – West Virginia American Water delivers high-quality drinking water to approximately 600,000 customers statewide. Protecting water at its source is an important component in the company’s efforts to treat and deliver safe, reliable water and wastewater service.

Protecting and conserving shared water resources requires a collective effort from the community. This Earth Day, West Virginia American Water and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) encourage West Virginians to treat every day like Earth Day by adopting simple practices:

  • Join a community cleanup event
  • Turn off the water to brush your teeth and shave
  • Collect rainwater to use in your garden
  • Use reusable water bottles
  • Grow an organic garden
  • Run full loads of laundry and dishes

Additionally, on Saturday, April 27, the Drug Enforcement Administration is hosting its annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. This day encourages the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes in a safe and eco-friendly manner. Drop-off locations are open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. local time. Visit dea.gov/takebackday for more information and a list of local drop-off locations.

West Virginia American Water will be further strengthening its environmental commitment by partnering with the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection to host their annual Earth Day at the Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences on April 23 in Charleston. On April 24, the company’s employees will also conduct highway clean-up events along roadways and waterways it has adopted through the West Virginia Division of Highways’ Adopt-A-Highway program. This initiative promotes environmental stewardship and supports source water protection along highways and waterways within a one-mile radius of each West Virginia American Water surface water and wastewater treatment plant.
